Rodney Chapman is a Brooklyn-based saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, rapper, hip hop producer, and visual artist known under the name Godfather Don. He rose to prominence in the 1990s underground hip hop scene as a respected MC and beatmaker, with production and performance credits alongside artists like Chubb Rock, Nas, Fat Joe, Ultramagnetic MCs, Screwball, Mobb Deep, Kool Keith, Cormega, and Czarface. Rodney leads The Open Mind, a free jazz/avant-garde trio with bassist Norbert Marius and drummer Alex Feldman. The group focuses on experimental improvisation—stretching jazz standards to their limits while still holding onto their melodic core.
